Dr Sana Atif

Specialist Rehabilitation Physician MBBS, FAFRM (RACP)

Dr Sana Atif is a Specialist in Rehabilitation Medicine, based in Canberra. She undertook her postgraduate training at the Royal Hobart Hospital, Tasmania and was awarded Fellowship of Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (AFRM) in January 2023. She worked as Consultant Rehabilitation Physician at Royal Hobart Hospital and Calvary St. John’s Private Hospital prior to relocating to ACT in 2025. She is currently a Staff Specialist at University of Canberra Hospital and is also an AFRM accredited supervisor for rehabilitation medicine trainees.

With extensive knowledge in rehabilitation-focused assessment and management of people with complex disabilities and diverse biosocial backgrounds, Dr Sana Atif is committed to improving the quality of lives of her patients using a multidisciplinary and evidence-based approach.

Dr Atif has worked in both public and private hospitals in Australia. She has extensive experience in providing and coordinating multidisciplinary rehabilitation in a range of neurological and musculoskeletal conditions leading to disability and functional impairments. She has special interest and vast experience in ultrasound-guided botulinum toxin injections for spasticity management. Her areas of expertise include:

• Spinal cord injury medicine
• Acquired brain injuries rehabilitation including severe TBIs, mild TBIs (concussion) and stroke
• Neurological rehabilitation in conditions like stroke, MS, Parkinson’s Disease, demyelinating and motor
neuron diseases
• Management of Musculoskeletal conditions including osteoarthritis, pre and post-joint replacement and
spine surgery rehabilitation
• Chronic Pain assessment and multidisciplinary management
• Spasticity Management and US guided botulinum toxin injections
• MSK interventions including steroid injections, PRP, prolotherapy, trigger point injections
• Limb Amputee rehabilitation and prosthetic prescription
• Multi-trauma rehabilitation
• Geriatric rehabilitation
• General reconditioning post medical/ surgical conditions
• Medical assessments for returning to drive/ returning to work

Dr Atif is passionate about maximizing the function and independence of her patients, providing them with the resources they need to achieve their goals and to support their safety, dignity, and productivity in the community. She is proficient in several languages, including English, Urdu, Hindi, and Punjabi, enabling her to provide care to patients from diverse cultural backgrounds.
